MIAMI UNIVERSITY ART EDUCATION

Welcome to our new Fall 2016 Art Education Majors!!

Brittney Greer

Hello, my name is Brittney and I'm from Harrison, Ohio. I've always had a passion for art and I can't wait to meet so many people with similar interests! For the past two summers I've worked for ArtWorks Cincinnati, painting murals in downtown Cincinnati and Over the Rhine. So far I've helped paint four murals, and last spring I was hired for ArtWorks' Hero Design Company and for a few months I sewed custom superhero capes for children in the foster care system. Outside of art, I enjoy marching band and colorguard. I marched three seasons of marching band, two seasons of winterguard, and one season of drum corps. I also enjoy writing and special effects makeup. Though I only started this year, I hope to develop my skills in makeup as well as art. I hope to pass on my passion for learning to younger generations. I can't wait to meet all of you! :)

Larissa Kurucz

Hi, I'm Larissa Kurucz! I am from a small town called Lancaster, Ohio. I love to dance and have been doing so since I was 3 years old. I also love to cheer and have been doing that since I was 8 years old. I am also a cheerleader here at Miami University so look for me on the sidelines on saturdays! For the summer I am hired through Americheer and travel to teach cheer camps to schools all over Ohio. I decided to transfer to Miami U when the coach recruited me for cheerleading and I fell in love when I visited and saw how amazing the art education program was! I can't wait to meet all of you and start this new chapter in my life! Go Redhawks(:

Hi! My name is Emma Laskowski. Im originally from Chicago but I've lived overseas in Hong Kong for 17 years. This summer I am working for a summer camp through Northwestern. I have also been traveling a lot visiting Hong Kong, California, Chicago, and I might go to Utah to visit my best friend. I also love to paint, draw, hike,  and hang out with my family because living overseas I'm not able to see them very much. I chose art education because I have always loved art and working with kids so I thought that combining two things that I love would be what I wanted to do. I always knew that I loved art but throughout high school I also had many opportunities to work with kids in Hong Kong as well as abroad and i knew that that was what I wanted to do.
Hey I'm Laura, from Cincinnati, OH. Love my Lord Jesus, I played Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball and Softball all 4 years in high school, hopefully will continue to play in some club leagues here at Miami. I was homeschooled until 8th grade, would always draw pictures or doodle, in my sophomore year in high school I took my first actual art class, where I was finally taught the fundamentals and skills of creating. Then I was able to apply my imagination and thoughts into making it my own and sharing my testimony through my artwork. Multiple other teachers have really inspired me and shown me that teaching is where I want to spend my efforts, combining my love for art and people! God has opened the door for me to be at Miami through how he's gifted me, and I can't wait to share these gifts with my classmates and my future students!

Mackenzie Mettey

Hey everyone! I'm Mackenzie Mettey from Cincinnati Ohio! I'm so excited to begin a new year and get to know all of you! As I said, I'm from Cincinnati and attended Kings High School (which is actually located right next to King's Island if you know what that is!) I originally planned on becoming a graphic design major but after some thought and mini intervention sessions with both of my art teachers I realized I have a passion for kids and teaching as well as art. Some of my hobbies include; acting, reading, drawing, hiking, watching movies/tv shows, listening to music, and geocaching just to name a few! I'm really into European cultures (specifically England) and plan to study abroad at some point. My favorite animal is a panda bear, I watch The Walking Dead more often than I'd like to admit, and to be honest I might win the award for best procrastinator. I'm so excited to make Miami my home next year and I'm especially excited to meet all of you :) My instagram is @mackenzie_mettey if you want to connect with me but no pressure lol

Lizzy Tatlow

My name is Lizzy Tatlow. I’m from St. Louis, Missouri. I love going on runs, hiking, and biking. I’ve been trying to learn calligraphy and brush script this summer, as well as working at Abercrombie and Fitch as a stock associate. This summer I also visited my family’s cabin in Door County, Wisconsin and hung out with my friends from home.  I love exploring new places and finding good coffee shops and restaurants to go to. I became interested in art education first semester of freshman year when I saw the “Art 195” class was offered. I took the class, and really liked it. I’m super excited to explore art education more and participate in Saturday art lessons a bit more this year!

Hi, I'm Perry Tatlow! I am from St. Louis, Missouri and learned about Miami through pamphlets and word of mouth. I really enjoy running, Netflix-watching, art, and the color turquoise. I'm spending my summer working as a stock associate at Abercrombie and Fitch and enjoying the fun parts of St. Louis, but I am also going to the lake in Wisconsin for a little while. Can't wait for next year in Art Education!

Ariel Williams

Picture
Hi! I'm Ariel Williams. I'm from West Chester, Ohio. I chose Miami because a lot of my older friends go here and it was the only college that felt right when I visited. I loved it ever since my sophomore year of high school when my Young Life leader let me stay at her house on campus. I couldn't see myself at any other college. I chose Art Education because I've loved art since I was little. I knew I wanted to major in something within art but nothing really interested me. Eventually, I saw the Art Education program and everything clicked. I used to play "teacher" all the time when I was younger and I've always loved my art teachers. It seemed to combine everything I was looking for. Besides loving art, I enjoy jogging, drinking coffee, adventuring and hanging out with friends. This summer I've been really busy with different Young Life events. I went to a Young Life camp in New York for a week with my high school. I will be serving at another Young Life camp in Virginia for the whole month of July. Other than that, I've just been enjoying the little time I have left with my friends and preparing for college. I'm looking forward to meeting new people and attending Miami University!

Cheyenne Wolfenbarger

Picture
My name is Cheyenne Wolfenbarger. I am from the charming town, Lebanon, Ohio, where I have lived most of my life. I live here with my loving parents and my 14 year-old, twin siblings. Other than my passion for art, I have dedicated a lot of my time towards being a musician. Playing clarinet, tenor saxophone, and piano during my years of band were some of my most memorable times and I hope to continue my musical hobbies. This summer I am pouring all of my dedication into my eleventh and final year of 4-H and participating in the Warren County Fair. My 4-H projects are ranging anywhere from show rabbits to cooking and photography.  I am eagerly looking forward to starting college in the fall. Growing up to become an art teacher has always been at the back of mind and it is amazing to finally focus and begin to make that aspiration a reality. Art has taught me hard work, dedication, patience, and an appreciation for the fine details; however, I never would have learned those skills without the guidance of my art teachers over the years. I cannot wait to expand my knowledge and skill and then pass it on to future students, just as my teachers did for me!
