MIAMI UNIVERSITY ART EDUCATION

Welcome To Our New Fall 2019 Art Education Majors!!

Lindsay Lees

I’m Lindsay Lees from Kenilworth which is a suburb just north of Chicago. Art has been a passion of mine ever since I was old enough to hold a crayon. When I’m not making art I love hanging out with my friends, working out, and spending time with my dogs! During high school I was on the fencing team, worked on the school’s art magazine, and volunteered at my church’s nursery. I chose to major in Art Education because I can’t imagine a career more rewarding than sharing my love of art with others. I’m so excited to start my journey at Miami this fall!

Ally Johnson

I'm Ally, I'm from a suburb of Chicago Illinois, (Downers Grove). I picked Miami because it felt the most like home, they had the major I wanted, and they gave nice scholarships. If you could call getting food with friends a hobby, then that's definitely mine. I love spending time with people I care about. I also like listening to music and one of my random interests is Anatomy and Physiology. I also like learning about marine biology and space. Over the summer I went to a lakehouse with my family and some extended family. I also went to Lollapalooza in Chicago, which is a music festival. I chose Art education because I love art and I want to share my love of it with others. I also had a lot of impactful teachers who opened my eyes through my life and I really want to be that for other students.

Sydnie Reatherford

Hey there! My name is Sydnie Reatherford and I am from a small town on the west side of Cincinnati called Cleves. My hobbies include traveling, hiking, golf, photography, and any form of art! I am a wedding photographer, mural artist, and server at Pattersons Cafe so my summer will consist of working with occasional road trips! Art and working with people & children have always been my passion. The thought of being able to merge the two through teaching art is so exciting to me! As I graduated from the Miami University Art department in 2017 with my BFA, it was not a hard decision for me to make when choosing where to go back o school. I love the art program and staff here at Miami!

Mallory Custer

Hello, my name is Mallory Custer and I am from Mt. Healthy, Ohio (about 15 minutes from downtown Cincinnati). Art has been my passion for as long as I can remember so much so that I could never really consider it a hobby more like a life style. In my free time when I am not creating art I love to read and spend quite a lot of time volunteering with the kids at my church. Art Education wasn’t my first choice in fact I start at Miami last year as a studio art major. Somehow, throughout the course of the year after countless friends, family, classmates, and even a few professors asking why I wasn’t an Art Ed Major I became not just other asking me this question I began to ask myself too. While art is my passion it was always closely followed by my love of working with kids. After much consideration, I decided to add Art Ed as a double Major along was the Studio Art Major I had already begun working on. I know that a double major will probably be a lot of hard work, but I am ready and excited for the challenge and look forward to meeting everyone.
