Welcome To Our New Fall 2017 Art Education Majors!!

Katie Rieman

Hey everyone! My name is Katie Rieman. I’m from Cincinnati, Ohio. From a young age I knew that I wanted to teach but was unsure if I wanted to pursue education as my career. After taking my first Art Education classes, Art 195 and 296, I decided that I should follow through with my dream to teach. I have always had a passion for art and enjoy what I’m doing as long as I get to be creative. I love surrounding myself around children while I get to see their constant growth. I can’t wait to see where teaching will lead me! Outside of art education, I love ceramics, jewelry making, candle making, makeup, cooking and traveling! Over my summer break I am always busy taking online courses as well as working as a server at Aladdin’s Eatery in West Chester, Ohio and trying to fit in as much traveling as I can. Although I have met many Art Education majors at Miami, I am eager to meet those who I have not yet met and get more involved with the Art Education program this year!

Olivia Celesti

Hi! My name is Olivia Celesti and I'm from West Chester, Ohio. I am so excited to be a Redhawk this fall as a art education major! I have always been artistically inclined since I was young. I've also loved working with young children, so combining the two seemed to fit the best for me. Other than art I enjoy being very active. I have been involved with soccer all throughout my life and I hope to join a intramural team at Miami. I also really enjoy hiking and just hanging out with friends! I am very eager to start my journey at Miami!

Miyah Greenwood

Hi! I'm Miyah from Copley, Ohio. I always liked doing art when I was younger but it wasn't until high school that I realized it was something I really enjoyed and wasn't half bad at. I chose art education because I wanted to make my college experience something enjoyable and valuable. Besides art, I enjoy working out, listening to lots of different music and recently watching House of Cards. I'm excited to meet all of you and hope we all have a successful and happy 4 years in college together.

Cas Napier

Hi everyone, my name is Cas Napier and I'm from Medina, Ohio. Along with art I have a love for music, especially the flute which I have been playing since the fifth grade. This led me to joining the marching band in high school and now the Miami marching band. I also will be joining the university horse riding team for IHSA which is another activity I have enjoyed since I was little. I have an intense love for animals such as my pets I have with me in my picture Chloe (dog) and Katie (bird). They led me to volunteer at my local animal shelter which is actually tons of fun. I'm really excited to meet all of you as we start our journey into this field!

Richelle Boland

Hello, my name is Richelle and I am from Mason, Ohio.  I am forty seven years old and I am just learning what it is I want to be when I grow up!  My dream job is to be an art teacher.  I have worked and volunteered in education for the last ten years.  The last five have been in the art room at the school my daughter attended.  I have always loved art, although I have never been formally trained.  While working at my daughter’s school I realized I had a passion to teach kids, especially art.  It is truly an honor to be able to be a positive influence in a child’s life.  Embarking on this journey toward being an art teacher is truly a dream come true.  I am very excited to be attending such a great school like Miami University.  I have met such wonderful people already and I can’t wait to meet those who share may same passion.

Shianne Baldwin

Hi! I’m Shianne Baldwin, and I’m from small town Van Wert, Ohio. When looking at colleges, Miami was the one place that felt like home, and that’s exactly why I chose this amazing school. When I’m not working, my free time can usually be spent reading, spending time with my friends and family, working on art projects, or binge watching shows on Netflix. Ever since I was little, I’ve always loved school and art. For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to do something with art as a career, and the combination of becoming a tutor in high school and a student aid for the elementary school art teacher, I realized how to combine both of these things. Looking at the Art Education program at Miami, I knew that this was my fit. I’m so excited for the opportunities this program will continue to give me and for the friends I’ll make along the way! Love and Honor!

Katie Ercolani

Picture
Hi, I'm Katie Ercolani! I am from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I am a figure skater and I have been skating for 13, almost 14 years now. I am trying out for Miami’s Varsity Synchronized Skating teams so hopefully I’ll see you in the stands at hockey games when we perform! For the summer I am traveling to Italy for a few days but when I’m home I will be training almost everyday until tryouts. I will also be running my own small photography business which I started last year and hopefully taking tons of senior pictures for the class of 2018. I became interested in Miami through the skating world but I completely fell in love with the campus and the people there when I visited. I chose art education because throughout high school I have had such amazing teachers who have helped me find a love for art especially my photography teacher. I can’t wait to hopefully connect with students as much as my teachers did with me! I’m also excited to meet all the other art education majors! See you all at campus :)

Alex Morse

Hi everyone, my name is Alex Morse and I am from Prospect, Kentucky!  I have taken art classes all throughout my educational career and this year survived A.P. Drawing and Painting.  Each year art has become a bigger part of my life and I am so excited to make it a career with Art Education.  Through several volunteer opportunities and my job at the girl's clothing store Justice I have realized that I love working with kids and that a teaching job would be perfect for me!  I also love to read and listen to music, am obsessed with the color blue, and love animals and volunteering at the Kentucky Humane Society.  This summer I will be working on my art, relaxing at Hilton Head, and working at my job.  I fell in love with Miami and the art program at Arts Day and cannot wait to attend Miami and pass on my love of art to others through teaching!

Kaleb Joseph

Picture
Hi, I’m Kaleb Joseph and I’m a 19 year old from Middletown, Ohio. This is my second year as a Miami Regional student, and this year I will be taking my first Oxford courses. Growing up I loved drawing more than anything. I had a natural talent for drawing and I drew frequently until around junior high. My passion for art had slowed down quite a bit until being renewed by another medium, graphic art. I loved making silly things on Microsoft Paint as a kid but in junior high I really found my niche in graphic design. When I was a sophomore in high school I started designing graphics for shirts, I came up with a brand name and started my own clothing brand. I still run the clothing brand and design all of the clothes, stickers and promotional art to this day. I sell the clothes through my website and ship them mostly in the U.S. but sometimes around the world. I have a strong passion for graphic art and also a renewed passion for many other mediums. To add to my love of art, I have always valued the impact a good teacher can have on someone’s life in any field. I would love to teach college studio classes someday and still run my clothing business on the side. I also plan on pursuing an Entrepreneurship minor to help with my business. I am looking forward to really starting my pursuit in Art Education and learning about teaching this year!

Taya Pennington

Picture
Hi, I’m Taya! I’m from Portsmouth, Ohio which is incredibly small and incredibly south. I’ve loved art ever since I was a little kid, it’s something I’ve just always had. That being said--- this gave me plenty of time to experiment and make weird things like life-sized packaging tape people. I had never really been an extroverted person until much later in life, so art had given me a way to express how I was feeling when I couldn’t do it verbally. I want to go into art education because I’d like to help other kids recognize that art can be an outlet for them much like the way it was for me. Outside of art, I’m really into movies--- specifically action, sci-fi, seriously any animated film, and of course, cheesy 80’s rom-coms. I also love science, I have so many useless facts about space it’s ridiculous. I am obsessed with the color yellow, my favorite super hero is Wolverine, red poppies are my favorite flower and I actually really don’t like chocolate. I am, in short, quite a character… But, I’m a character who is incredibly excited to start a new chapter in my life and make some new friends who are hopefully just as excited about everything as I am.
