Senior Capstones 

ART FOUNDATIONS COURSES
Make sure you take Creative Technology as early as possible (first semester of your freshman year). The knowledge you will gain from this course will feed into all other arts courses.
WHAT CAN "DOUBLE DIP"?
Some courses in your program can double-dip, however, be cautious. Watch your DARS carefully about what courses are "counting" where. Please note that Art 255: Digital Imaging can NOT count towards the photo studio requirement and the educational technology requirement. It can only counts towards one.

WHAT MATH COURSES COULD I TAKE?
Some students are curious about what math courses are suggested for art education majors. Here are a few suggestions: CCA 111, CEC 266, MUS 221

WHAT LITERACY COURSE COULD I TAKE?
As part of your art education requirements, you need to take a literacy course. We HIGHLY recommend you take MUS 226 in a fall semester. However, you also have the option to take EDT446A in the spring.

WHAT ADVANCED WRITING COURSE COULD I TAKE?
EDT 284. Writing for Educators. (3)
This writing course is designed for prospective educators and those who want to strengthen their written voices. Students will develop and extend attitudes, habits, and skills that enable them to write with efficiency, clarity, and substance. In addition to writing in a number of genres, students will study the craft of successful writers to learn strategies that expand their own writing repertoire. A central feature of this course is peer response and one-to-one conferences with the instructor to help students learn to revise evolving writing into writing worth reading. ADVW.

Prerequisite: ENG 111 or equivalent.
Keep in mind that Student Teaching is the SENIOR CAPSTONE experience for the BS in Art Education. Should you decide you don't want to seek teaching certification at the end of your program, you may be able to take an alternative capstone. (See your advisor for more information.)

Thematic Sequences

Thematic sequences are "mini minors" and require 9 hours in a sequence of 3 courses outside your major department. There are predetermined thematic sequences to choose from and they are listed in the bulletin. 

You also have the option to create your own thematic sequence.

Just as with a minor, you must declare your thematic sequence in the department office of the thematic sequence you choose (i.e. if you choose EDP1, you must declare in the Educational Psychology office). Typically, students declare their thematic sequence when you're ready to begin the 2nd of the 3 courses.

A couple of the courses you already take for your degree requirements can double-dip as the first course in your thematic sequence (depending on which you choose). Although you are welcome to do any thematic sequence outside the Art Department, here are a few suggestions for thematic sequences where the first course is already embedded: EDP1, EDP2, EDP3
